Description of Work:

This project will rehabilitate the South James Street Bridge over the Erie Barge Canal in the City of Rome, NY. The project will consist primarily of bolt replacement, joint replacement, bridge painting, and other incidental repairs. The objectives of this project is to preserve and prolong the service life of the existing structure by reducing the rate of deterioration of the identified deficient bridge elements through cost effective rehabilitation strategies.

End:
Fall 2025

Right-of-Way:

All work to be completed within the existing highway right-of-way.

Utilities:

This bridge carries a high-pressure gas line at the right fascia, as well as numerous electrical conduits at the left fascia. There is a separate conduit which runs along the each fascia, which serves the navigation lights. The project will not impact the utilities.

Work Zone Traffic Control:

The bridge will be closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic and an offsite detour will be utilized during construction. The duration of this closure is expected to be approximately five (5) months. The detour route would utilize South James Street, NY 26 / 365 and NY 26 / 49 / 69 (Erie Blvd. E). The detour length is 4.4 miles north-to-south, and 5.3 miles south-to-north. The detour requires approximately 5 minutes of travel time.

Anticipated Construction Cost: $2,420,000
